MENTAL HEALTH PRESENTATION FOR YOUTH AND TRANSITIONING ADULTS
WHO, WHAT, WHERE, WHY AM I? ANXIETY, PANIC, AND DISSOCIATION
SELF-LOVE: AN UNCONDITIONAL LOVE FOR THE SELF
This presentation is great for all ages, but especially youth and young adults from the ages of 11-24. I target this specific demographic because these are the years in which we are trying to find our balance and in which mental health symptoms generally begin to present themselves. We're trying to figure out who we are, where we fit in, and how to articulate the way we feel and the things we want. In this presentation I share my journey and experiences with anxiety, depression, and mental health symptoms in hopes I'll be relatable, helpful, and provide positive resources and skills.
This presentation focuses on anxiety, panic disorder, and dissociation. Studies show that anxiety affects roughly 18% of the US population and is the most common mental health disorder. Studies also show, that over a 1 year period, 2-3% of adults in the US will suffer from some form of panic disorder. Both of these things can then lead to dissociation, or feeling outside of your body.
I am sharing my experience with all of these things, and actionable steps during the symptomatic progression from anxiety to dissociation, and ways in which we can stop it along the way.
Self-Love... What does it mean? Self-love as a concept can be elusive. In mainstream society self-love is seen as an acceptance of our body-image and appearance. Sure, that is a crucial element of self-love, but it goes far deeper than that. In fact, it includes looking into the deepest, darkest corners of ourselves and saying "Hey! I see you, and I love you anyway."
Self-love is about overcoming toxic shame, forgiving ourselves for any messiness of the past, and moving forward toward a sustainable wellness.
